“Jonathan Groff
Although he plays the charismatic and skeptical troublemaker Melchior onstage, the angel-faced Groff, 21, adopts no bad-boy posturing in real life. “I’m a big musical-theater nerd, as opposed to the other cool kids in the cast,” he confesses with a laugh. “My mom brought a bus of 56 people from my hometown to see the play; my dad was in shock after I pulled down my pants.” Groff chose a national tour of The Sound of Music over college, and understudied the lead in the disastrous Broadway musical In My Life—neither of which prepared him for Spring Awakening. “This has been a complete education for me,” he says. “Not only as a performer but as a person: How to be cool.” —http://newyork.timeout.com/articles/off-broadway/6037/spring-quartet
